Notes & Combos

I played 74 games from Diamond 5 to Master 5 using the new Radiant Typhoon archetype. Here's the breakdown for this run:

  • Overall Win Rate: 63.51% (47 Wins - 27 Losses)
  • Win Rate Going 1st: 75.68% (28 Wins - 9 Losses)
  • Win Rate Going 2nd: 51.35% (19 Wins - 18 Losses)
  • Average Game Length: 3.20 Turns

At the risk of sounding like the 'unc' that I am, I played the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG when it first released in North America, back when MST was a card that would start long arguments at the kitchen table. Some of my homeboys didn't make it to see the day that MST would indeed negate!

I had a fun but difficult time piloting this deck. This archetype was at its strongest for me when going first and establishing a board with Mandate on the field, a way to summon Fonix or Vibrant Vortex on turn two, and a complement of MSTs and other backrow. My goal on the opponent's turn was to prevent their plays as much as possible, then follow up with a kill on turn three. I struggled going second until I started playing a build with three Fuwalos and three Super Poly. Sacrificing some consistency for another board breaker in Super Poly and card draw through Fuwalos seemed well worth it.

Krosea is the key card of the deck that opponents will often save their negates for. Beware that summoning Krosea will lock you out of special summoning anything besides Wind monsters for the rest of your turn—a condition to remember when running cards like Nibiru or Super Poly. Shiina is also a fantastic card that won me more than a few games on the spot. I'm torn on whether or not to run the full three copies; adding Magnamhut to search Shiina is an option.

The extra deck is highly flexible because Marine Eidolon is the only must-include. You can build the extra deck around Super Poly or Pot of Extravagance.

While I don't think this deck is the strongest in the game, it plays well and it's fun to pilot. I think this archetype will only get better with time as cards like The Fallen & The Virtuous get released.
