Opening Thoughts

Took about a ~10 month break to come back to the Tearlament meta and it's been crazy! And "8-Axis Blind Second" decks do pretty poorly against decks with a lot of same-turn recursion (e.g. Tearlament).

Compared to 10 seasons ago (lol), I went into a lot more Synchro monsters this season and I OTK'd much less - usually winning the game over at least 2 turns through controlling the game state/board.

Card Rationale + General Lines of Play

With Kashtira Fenrir (and to same extent, Unicorn) essentially entering staple status and showing up in almost all decks, Change of Heart's become even more live than before. Stealing a Fenrir not only nets you a search for your own Kashtira, your tuners, Deep Sea Diva or Ash Blossom, allow you to go into either Shenshen (for its powerful banishing effect) or your Level 10s, Baronne or Chengying.

Deep Sea Diva netting you another copy of itself gives you a lot of flexibility as well, allowing you to go into your Synchro toolbox as needed. Something that came up a lot was Chengying on board with Gizmek Orochi in hand or grave - one of my favourite interactions * chef's kiss *.

The usual Dingirsu > Pain Gainer (it's effect to pop monsters with less DEF is extremely useful) > Seven Sins > Zeus was live as well - but I found myself not going into as often. The Draglubion OTK even less so.

Thoughts for Next Season

I wasn't able to make it to Master 1 since I came back from taking a break, but I plan on making the grind next season. I'm considering Blackwing - Sharnga the Waning Moon to replace Deep Sea Diva, but I'm not sure yet. Deep Sea Diva also allows you access to Icejade Gymir Aegirine, which will be no doubt useful with Kashtira on the rise. Chaos Angel is another consideration, which will be slightly more accessible with Sharnga.
