Notes & Combos
Decided to challenge myself by reaching Master 1 at the beginning of the season instead of the end, and I used going-2nd Gem-Knights once again.
It was ****. I was stuck going from Master 5 to Master 3 and back for hours. Thankfully once I got to M2 I didn't derank again. Had a lot of issues with bad hands/bad draws, like drawing nothing but more engine if my opponent gave me draws off a Mulcharmy, and at one point I hard opened Gem-Knight Fusion 4 duels in a row. Luck was not on my side this season
The decklist went through some changes from last season. I took out Droll for Heavy Storm and a third Purulia, and replaced one of the Raigeki with a 2nd Lightning Storm. I found that backrow removal was way more important this seasons. Also added Dark Hole because early on I faced a lot of Orcust/RB decks that were putting a token on my field with Girsu and turning off Lightning Storm
The other big change was taking out Book of Eclipse for Ultimate Slayer. Eclipse wasn't getting the job done for me, so I wanted to try something new, and Ultimate Slayer did pretty well. Sending N'tss to get rid of both a Branded fusion monster and a set copy of The Fallen and The Virtuous ended up winning me several games. Malong was good for clearing KT boards, and Aggregator for negating/removing Caesar. I would say it was mostly worth it but sometimes it was kinda bricky. Hard to say if Super Poly would've been better in its place
Match ups: -KT was usually in my favor but I ran into a lot of KT-Elfnote in Master and that was a bigger toss-up. There were some boards I still can't believe I played through -Branded was almost always a win. Backrow removal took care of most of their interruption, and knowing when to disrupt their quick effect fusions made things a lot easier. The Dracotail variant was not as favorable -Enneacraft was an easy win 90% of the time. That deck is so boring to face. The games I lost were almost exclusively due to floodgates -Maliss was the bane of my existence and I ran into it a lot in Master. I always felt like I was one interaction away from winning -Orcust was much the same, but slightly more favorable -SS I usually did well against if I opened backrow hate, same with RT -VSK9 I did surprisingly well against compared to last season
Didn't run into any other deck as consistently
