Notes & Combos

Reached Master 1 on 11 January 2026.

I was already at M3 before the new selection pack dropped in MD. The climb to M3 was not very different with my Diamond climb in terms of experience. I would say it was slightly more difficult because the players I met were at least DC Top 10k title holders and their decks were strong.

The climb from M3 to M1 was challenging because of Yummy. My first match after the update was against the last year's champion and I immediately got a taste of how strong Yummy is.

Going second Gem-Knights should be able to deal with Yummy. I played three Impermanence as a way to disrupt their combo. Imperming Cupsy seemed to greatly impact Yummy. Not necessarily stopping their combo, but their endboard becomes more manageable. Alternatively, Impermanence may be used during our turn to stop Snatchy from synchro summoning.

In my opinion, Yummy becomes one of the hardest matchups simply because of Herald of the Arc Light. It being untargeted (via Spright Elf) and banishes monsters from the hand and main deck renders some of the generic cards less effective. Impermanence becomes useless and Droplet cannot send monster cards from our hand. The only option we have is to bait Herald's effect, which is not easy. Often times opponents will prioritize using other interruptions before finally using Herald to negate.

One thing that I noticed is that Yummy does not have a built-in negation abilities. Because of this reason, I added a Raigeki as a way to force Herald to negate the effect. Good thing that Herald is now limited only at one copy in MD. Once it leaves the field, the game becomes easier. Though against SolfaYummy, it was more difficult because of the multiple layer of negates.
