Notes & Combos

Swordsoul & Tenyi cards are pretty self-explanatory but I decided to commit more to disrupting my opponent's plays or getting to safely continue my combos.

Deckbuilding

As I was making my final stretch into Diamond, I was having a lot of issues playing through the new Ishizu cards and big negate boards from Spright/Despia that with Swordsouls mid-range playstyle just doesn't always have the best answers. Even with more traditional cards like Circle to dodge certain effects or a blackout to pop, they weren't enough to deal with some of the pushes decks can put out.

There were two options I was considering when editing my previous lists:

  1. Add Board Breakers like Dark Ruler No More, Evenly Matched, or Droplets to play for a more going second playstyle.
  2. Play around hitting the chokepoints of my opponent, opting for disruption from handtraps like Droll & Ogre.

I went with #2. I love hitting chokepoints.

Tips

If you see the red indicator for Maxx C and have Gamma + Tenyi/Longyuan in hand I'll usually lead with the Tenyi/Longyuan special summon first to bait out the Maxx C then chain Psy-frame Gamma for an additional free synchro summon.

Gamma and Longyuan on-board allow for some more interesting synchro plays since you can use Longyuan + Psy-Frame Gamma to go into Chi Xao and Driver + Swordsoul token into Supreme Sovereign getting a search for another starter or Summit => Protoss depending on your grave count.

Droll is like Ash Blossom light where it can stop an opponent from getting additional draws off of Maxx C but if you activate on your turn it can interrupt the search and draws from Chixao + Moye. Try to keep that in mind when continuing to build your board under droll maybe opting for Dragite, Berserker, or Baxia.

Within the Ishizu Pile match-ups if you're under Maxx C and they're looking to deck you out, Droll can act as a way to stop your draws off Maxx C. Bit of a judgement call if you've got the gas in-hand to stop their plays but always helps into these FTKs.

Afterthoughts

There's still some counts and cards I'm unsure would still be in the final list.

Dino Wrestler was more of a last minute choice to make the even 40 count. There were a handful of games where he was a nice pairing with my starters like Moye/Taia to clear boards without having Vishuda or other answers. He definitely was more of a win more than a saving grace in the matches he did come up.

Consider him a free slot.
