Notes & Combos

With the champ Nimble Beaver getting limited, I thought this was the perfect chance to debut this variant I've been cooking.

Let's start by talking about what this deck isn't. This isn't a traptrix deck. And this isn't a paleo deck. It's a spright deck that uses the trix and paleo engine for some diverse interactions and openers that might catch the opponent off-guard.

The crux of the trix-paleo engine is holeutea. If you have holeutea and a paleo card, you summon holeutea pitching the paleo, and the paleo will instantly trigger in grave to summon. This equals sprind without using your NS. The downside is the paleo cards are "when" effects, so if the opp uses maxx c or any other card after you trigger holeutea, the paleo will miss timing. However, people shotgun maxx c, so that's not really a problem.

True paleo lists run way more paleos, but the maxx c minigame and bo1 nature of MD eat too much deckspace. I needed handtraps and power cards to be able to play the game.

Let's dive into the specifics: Canadia and Dinomiscous. Book of moon and a banish. This might seem like a mid interaction, but a book of moon on the right monster can be a turn-stopper. Canadia on Fenrir? End turn. Canadia on Traptrix NS? End turn. Also, paleo cards are immune to monster effects. So Fenrir can't banish them, and things like accesscode or Noir can't remove them either. You can see a fatal misplay by a purrely player in the replay who thought they could spin my paleo.

Fenrir. I originally ran Kurikara to try and deal with Purrely, but the spright lock made it clunky. I added Fenrir back in, and it made a world of a difference forcing interactions.

Mellfy. I felt like my endboards were somewhat lackluster. I could OTK easily going second, but my endboards going first were mostly red, carrot, IP. The mellfy engine gave me an extra layer of interaction.

Final note: The paleo engine doesn't have a great future with ariseheart around the corner, but I think there is still a lot of unexplored territory with using holeutea as an engine. I invite you all to experiment.

Thank you to Brajendra from the Spright channel, and thank you to the members of the paleo-frog channel. All of your advice was very useful.

  1. Rank up match going first second against Nat runick. Lots of maxx c. You can see the power of canadia here.
  2. Going second against Lab. Ash is one **** of a card. You can see the power of dinomisous here. And also you can see how the paleos return when lab plays.
  3. Going first against mathmech with only traptrix. You can see why redoer is in the list.
  4. My FAVORITE replay. Going second against purrely. You can see my list at full power.
