About The Deck

Engage to three means every deck needs Striker now, right?

This is a wacky little deck idea I had after seeing the new cards and banlist. There's a lot of small synergies between these two archetypes. Vaalmonica can easily end on Zebufera + Trap to play under Nib and keep the monster zones clear for the Striker cards. The Striker cards offer a lot of utility going second, where Vaalmonica pure can struggle. Kagari often baits Imperms that would otherwise hit Selettrice. Plus gaining LP with Kaina for counters is very funny.

Strengths:

  • Going Second - The Striker cards make going second much easier for this deck. Hornet Drones alone threatens S:P, forcing plays from your opponent.
  • Varied Interuption - Having Striker cards set in your backrow means that Imperm on Zebufera is not the end of the game. Widow Anchor often makes the difference whether you live to next turn where you can start using Vaalmonica's excellent grind game and OTK potential.

Weaknesses:

  • Few Handtraps - This one's obvious. I only got FTK'd once in my climb but it is a risk when you play this kind of deck. I've also had games where I get OTK'd through Maxx "C" since I just don't have the handtraps to punish it.
  • Maxx "C" - Using hornet drones means summoning more, meaning some hands turn a deck that is very good under Maxx "C", into one that sucks.

Changes to Consider:

  • A second Widow Anchor replacing Shark Cannon or non-engine would be good. I wouldn't replace Afterburners since it's very good against decks like Horus and Stun.
  • Thrust felt surprisingly underpowered in this since there's nothing great to set going first. Might be better off with Prosperity or a second Talents.
  • The ED is pretty flexible and you can definitely go without Goddess or the second S:P. Additionally, Shizuku and Hayate are replaceable depending on your commitment to the Striker.

Overall very happy with the deck. I am confident that it's powerful enough to rival the more popular handtrap versions.
