Notes & Combos
This deck is designed to be Crystron with a K9 engine, rather than the more common approach; K9 with Crystrons only to spam level fives.
Before discussing the details of this deck. While the list posted here is the exact one I reached Master V with, afterward I revised it based on the lessons I learned during the climb. I'll quickly go over the changes I'd make and the motivation behind them
- -1 Thystvern, it gives us extra cards and can smooth out some combos, but it's too greedy to play in a k9 list
- +1 Tristaros because drawing it frees up Inclusion's gy effect to be used on a level 5 to make Ripper. Also normal summoning it can turn already good hands into great ones
- +1 Sulfefnir because this is definitely a two card combo deck, and it works with just about anything
- Second Eleskeletus instead of Ametrix because we dropped Thystvern
Anyway, this deck actually plays quite similarly to a pure list. It only plays seven K9 cards, (excluding Izuna and Lupis which are virtually non-engine) the same size as a full Millennium engine. But K9 bridges into Crystron without needing to rely on Zombie Vampire RNG, which is why I believe it is superior even in a Crystron heavy build. Of course, K9 has many other advantages too; such as giving the deck a higher ceiling, and allowing the use of Izuna to its maximum potential.
Concerning the actual list, it was a struggle to pick non-engine, because the meta is so diverse. Single hand-traps are almost never enough to meaningfully hinder your opponent, so I originally opted for a heavy Charmy line. Puru seemed good on paper, but I almost never saw Yummy, and VSK9 was surprisingly rare. With Killer Tune running around I recommend you drop it. Droll of course, overperformed. It's great against KT, and Crystron can play through it like it's nothing, so you can Droll yourself if the need should arise. I think, going forward it will be best to maximize engine, and hope that Droll, Fuwa, and Izuna carry you going second. You can play more Fuwas if you like, I just prefer playing two.
The extra deck is incredibly tight. Zeus and Typhon are the cards I used least, but they both came up during the climb. Vallon, Durendal, Hound, and Vimana are all good rank five options, but I don't think that any of them would be worth the extra slot.
I'm out of space so I have to wrap up. I personally love this deck and highly recommend it. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to leave them below. Thank you for reading!
