Notes & Combos
S47 — Pure Onomat
I really ~felt the flow~ when I pulled a royal Future Zexal in the latest pack, so I felt obligated to build this deck and climb with it. The new Onomat cards add a lot of texture to the existing strategy, allowing you to gobble up HTs not named Maxx C or Mulcharmies for days. However, the sobering reality is that this deck's power level is a significant downgrade from the Ryzeal hybrid, in both power ceiling and half-board compromises, so I don't advise building it unless you want something more rogue / fun / challenging.
This list is largely inspired by mag6uro's, but I included all the conditional Onomats like Onomatopoeia, Zubababa Knight, and the 2nd Ganbara. These are all largely cuttable for more non-engine, but each of these names did come up as extenders / extra search targets in varied game states. As for the non-engine choice, I'm playing all the standard blowouts plus 2x Imperms — Imperm only felt okay against most matchups, so you can easily switch these for Belles or Bystials (which have hidden synergy with Pickup turning them into level-4's). The 2x Talents definitely overperformed during the climb, as a powerful way of punishing Ash + Droll on your initial play. I'd probably be inclined to play 3 copies in future iterations, and potentially test out Gamma for even more sacky coverage.
The Extra Deck decision-making is easily the most interesting aspect of Pure Onomat as there are an abundance of r4nk toolbox options + endboard approaches. This current build plays the classic Dragonar package, forming a typical output of UDF + Zexal Future + Dragonar + Harbinger + Photon Lord. Clearly, this takes a up a lot of ED slots for the main payoff — there is a solid argument for cutting the hyper-turn 1 cards and switching to a more midrange style like many OCG players are doing. I definitely missed cards like Exciton, Zeus, Tornado Dragon, and Eclipse Twins, so there's a sizable space for experimentation particularly when it comes to patching up the going-second weakness.
Overall, I had a fun & fresh time channelling my inner anime protagonist with this deck, and I'm keen to keep this as a pocket rogue option whenever I'm in the mood!
