S51: Hurricane Season

This is my current iteration of Pure Radiant Typoon, adding another strong contender to an already diverse meta. Unlike my usual combo-centric decks, this list aims to not only setup the standard midrange board of Mandate + all the RT engine rotations, but also deep draws into Harpie's Feather Storm.

Yes, playing 3 copies of HFS might seem like a huge meme just for the sake of being toxic, but its utility extends to multiple levels. Of course, hard-opening this card is naturally nasty going 1st, but you can also view it as a pseudo-boardbreaker going 2nd. In a heavy-engine hand, if you can stick two WIND monsters on the board, you immediately threaten Harpie Conductor, which converts an otherwise dead HFS into a game-deciding lockdown. If Red Reboot sees more play to counter this degen strat, the good thing is that it does NOT stop Mandate already face-up on the field, preserving the rest of your disruptions.

Viewed more flexibly, Feather Storm as a powerful response to Maxx C / Fuwalos means we can break the typical MD deckbuilding constraints and forgo cards like Ash Blossom. In fact, we're only playing a total of 4 HTs here, where Fuwalos serves double-duty of being a WIND Winged-Beast for a makeshift HFS enabler if you get hand-trapped. I do miss cards like Purge, which could be considered in a more HT centric build, but unfortunately I think sticking to 40 cards is important here as this deck notoriously can feel a bit bricky.

As for other engine choices and ratios, I opted for bonus consistency cards like Extrav and Shield-Bearer, a classic searcher from my old Ritual Beast days. I decided to play 2x Shiina + 1x Magnamhut, as Magna represents the third copy if you squint hard enough, while adding another tool to help the Mitsurugi + Yummy matchups. I couldn't quite fit Super Poly in this list, but the card likely holds some merit especially if the mirror / Yummy variants continue to be popular. The ED is largely molded for Extrav currently; Ritual Beast Ulti-Rei is a flex spot + stylistic choice but hasn't come up yet, so swap it with something like Zeus if you want.

Overall, while other variants of RT may be equally or more viable (Fiendsmith, Speedroid, splashes in Memento, Maliss, etc), the RT x HFS crossover might just be the scariest thing you'll face in ladder — so give it a shot!

Banger Radiant Typhoon mirror, plus neat interactions vs. other grindy decks like VSK9 (where I OTK under Shifter) and Sky Striker (where I trigger the double Enterblathnir handloop), for you to get a sense of how the deck flows. More to come as I climb Rated + play tournaments over the following days!
