Notes & Combos

another season, another virtual world master 1 climb stripping me of my dignity and patience.

this was much harder than anticipated. i demoted FIVE times from master 3 to 5! out of desperation, i even swapped a qinglong and nyan for 2x super poly to board break against snake-eyes and branded; turns out that brickiness wasn't worth it. ultimately, i reverted to last season's list to finish the climb (with 1 less desires to respect the new banlist). droll wasn't good enough, i dropped it for imperm again.

before you try to climb ladder with my list, do understand that virtual world has horrendous matchups into all three of the most popular meta decks. you'll experience loss streaks out of nowhere from losing the coin flip and getting shut out of game after game.

virtual world has no in-engine response to promethean princess and the snake-eyes negate trap when going second. virtual world also cannot keep up with the near-infinite recursion of branded in a grind game. sigh.

there is hope, though. good hand trap usage can let you avoid these situations enough to let your going first games slowly push you upwards.

against snake-eyes, gamma/imperm their normal summon. ash the original sinful spoils. do NOT waste these interruptions on diabellstar! she is just a bridge to their actual starters.

against branded, you all already know what to do - they've been around for 10+ seasons now. against superheavy, you need to gamma / imperm the scarecrow if they managed to add soulpiercer to their hand earlier. otherwise, stop their normal summon (usually wagon to search soulpiercer). if you only have ash, use it against wakaushi or wagon, and pray they've got nothing else.

anyway, i will be submitting a total rewrite of the long outdated virtual world guide on this website when transaction rollback is confirmed in an upcoming selection pack. transaction rollback doesn't solve this deck's bricking problem but it does offer a payoff for resolving virtual world combos that outright embarasses crimson dragon: a turn skip that resolves in the graveyard and requires only two level 6s to set up!

if you have any suggestions for that upcoming guide or want to learn how to play this deck, check out #virtual-world in the master duel meta discord.

added 3 snake-eyes replays.

try to look for improvements on my play. ask yourself what you would do and compare it with my response. i'm not perfect, and snake-eyes is new to master duel, so we're all learning how to beat it.
