Notes & Combos

Pretty standard RT list. This build got me from DLv 17-19 in six straight wins and, after a couple of losses at the beginning of DLv 19, came back for four straight wins to reach DLv MAX. Overall W:L of 10:2 with this specific build, which dramatically outpaced other variations I tried. Three of those were Going Second wins, and most of those twelve games were against tiered decks. Deeper analysis below for those interested.

Handtraps or Breakers? I did pure RT with minimal handtraps for most of the event and had somewhere around a 53-55% win rate depending on the non-engine I ran. Unfortuntely, the nature of MD sort of demands some handtrap usage in a way the TCG doesn't. Ash and Maxx "C" are no-brainer staples, and I preferred Droll and Fuwa because of their relevance in the current meta and Wind attribute which meant they could be normal summons to set up important Link Summons or Shiina plays in really hairy circumstances.

Droplet was the MVP breaker, with Shiina a very close second. Super-Poly is only at 2 here because I got tired of drawing it when playing against VSK9, Sky Strikers, and Odion. It helps most with Dracotail, which this deck already eats for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Meta Matchups This deck was a monster against Dracotail, was strong against Sky Strikers, held its own with Odion, but consistency issues made it struggle a bit more against VSK9, Yummy, and Mitsurugi. That said, I got at least one full board break off on each of these three with good draws and some tactics.

A Side Note about DMOD I tried splashing in an Azamina/DMOD engine that works nicely to increase the deck's consistency in TCG, and it did improve the deck against Yummy and Mitsurugi in particular, but WANTED at 1 in Master Duel means you're bricking more because of it, it requires you to go for Dragoon before you get Krosea or Meghala out (and thus is more exposed to getting Ashed), and it introduces three true bricks with Hallowed Azamina, Deception, and Gaze of Timaeus. I'd strongly encourage against it on Master Duel for now.

Extra Deck Again, standard stuff. No FAV in MD frees up Extra Deck space, so I threw in Fortune Tune and ZEUS, but they never came up. TY-PHON was really valuable, and sniping a card from your opponent's hand with Phantom Fortress while planting a Fonix or Varuroon in your graveyard to come back at the beginning of their turn feels awesome. I'm not sure when you'd ever need three of the Link Varuroon.
