Notes & Combos

A rather difficult climb to DL Max with a deck that is fun, but deeply rogue. Your best strategy going first with Icejade Sharks is to put up forms of removal that are difficult to out. The ideal, but unlikely, end board is Gymir (summoned off of Ran), ChengYeng (summoned off Diva into Prima Donna), Kragen/Nash Knight (summoned off the Abyss shark engine), and an Aegirine which has searched Erosion to use for the omni negate. In Icejade sharks, you're more likely to get 2 of those than all of them at once, which means you'll need to adjust to what you get access to in your starting hand. The specific combination of an untargettable by monster effect ChengYeng (due to using Prima Donna as material) and the super protective Gymir makes the options for removal scarce.

There is also the possibility of putting up the curse lock, should you draw 1 of the pieces, if you use your aegirine search on the secondary piece, which has the potential to completely derail any strategy. These cards are played at 1 because they are searchable, and because achieving the lock is so unlikely (even if played at 3) that it isn't worth spending any more spots on it unless you are playing a pure Icejades build.

Going second, the same objectives hold true; however, there is added emphasis on the Shark engine, should you get access to it, since the Nash line can remove 2 monster and put up a 4700 monster that can improve OTK potential and provide follow up if allowed to survive until your next turn. Many have also been caught off guard, allowing the field spell to resolve, given its non-threatening language, only to realize that their entire field is negated due to the inherent summon of Kosmochlor.

Overall, this deck facilitates consistent level 10 synchro summoning and is able to provide answers to many of the format's biggest threats, such as Branded, VS, and Kashtira. It's primarily the susceptibility to hand traps that stops it from being a top tier contender.

I have a list of replays on my profile from my climb in the DC and I'll be adding more as I attempt to climb to Masters this season. Feel free to follow for future Icejade content (at least until Gold Pride or Unchained are released!)
