Notes & Combos

If you want to know where to start with combos for this deck, check out this video Jess made recently, very helpful: https://youtu.be/9YVKE-_mM-Q

Random notes for getting started:

  • If you bricked at least try to end on Konkon and Sheet set. That alone can often carry you through a turn. Wait for some sort of choking point halfway through the turn where you can nab and tribute key monsters that your opponent already spent resources on.
  • I prefer ending on Strenna over ending on Hyperyton, since Hyperyton negate also destroys, and you don't want to trigger Tear cards. Hyperyton in general is only really useful for non-Tear cards, but its negate definitely comes up.
  • Keep Ishizu millers from resolving with any means possible, and remember that Konkon tributes for cost so monsters with quick effects can't respond to being tributed. For example you can tribute Redoer, keeping it from banishing itself and triggering the Tear names attached to it.
  • Tear players can't read, so try to bait out their shufflers by using effects one by one. They also somehow always shuffle the monster you target with Lily Borea back into the deck, even though that doesn't keep it from hitting the field.
  • Dancepione gamba can save your *** a lot of times and helps extend, but try to keep track of how many Plant monsters are in your deck, and how many of them are already in play or in grave before you get it twisted.
  • 141 is a needed starter because this list is running well over 40, but it's also an Ash magnet. Do not use up all your resources on it if you are unsure if your opponent might have Ash, unless that is your only play left.
  • Therion package is not a must-have, but it is also your only answer to Evenly, and the Regulus negate can be nice to have. But make sure to be conservative using it, and remember that this negate does not destroy, so it is fine to use on Tear names (though you probably should save it for something more critical).
  • Conversely, Evenly is your only answer to backrow, and a must-have. In general the matchup against backrow-heavy decks is not good since the entire idea of the Rikka cards is tributing off monsters. Do not play Feather Duster to make up for this, since the destruction just triggers all the Tear cards' effects, and most of the meta decks are monster-heavy.
  • Naturia Rosewhip/Bamboo Shoot aren't really worth rn, see above.
  • Cactus Bouncer is probably worth trying, but it is a win more type of card.
