Notes & Combos

Alright so, quick story if you don't mind. I went into this ranked season thinking that I'm gonna play Runick Spright again since it's currently the best deck in the game. However, I played so much of it that I got bored of it and decided to try to ladder with a rogue deck that I saw in a YouTube video. So I play SPYRAL Auroradon, and for some reason, I just keep winning. And before I know it, I'm in Diamond 1. Yeah, this deck is legit.

HUGE shout-out to saint on YouTube and MDM for the decklist. Thanks to him, SPYRAL is my new favorite deck! You can find his most recent list here: (https://www.masterduelmeta.com/top-decks/diamond-v/march-2023/spyral/saint/VJW1l)

I made some minor adjustments to suit my tastes. For combos on how to play this deck, check out saint's video: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HvJqN8UK444)

Here's a primer for those new to SPYRAL Auroradon. Going first, this deck has probably the strongest endboard of any non-FTK deck in the entire game so far. At the end of your full combo going first, you get:

  • To stack your opponent's next three draws
  • To look at your opponent's hand and discard one
  • 4x monster negates from a four-material Apollousa
  • Either a Sphere Kuriboh effect or on-field monster negate from Power Tool
  • An omni-negate and floodgate from Herald
  • A non-targettable, non-destructible SPYRAL Sleeper that has double pop every turn
  • A search for Secret Village to lock your opponent from spells

Not including possible Ash/Called by/Droplet draws by the way. I dare you to name one deck that can play through this endboard. Your opponent has Dark Ruler No More? Secret Village says no. They have Lava Golem? Rip it out of their hand. They're about to draw the out? Rearrange their draws. They're playing all monsters? Good luck playing through 7 interruptions. Absolutely disgusting. In short, if you go full combo going first, you win. No exceptions.

Going second is definitely worse, but with Dangers, Knightmares, and Accesscode, the deck can surprisingly break boards pretty well.

The deck is definitely not invincible though. Since you're playing 60 cards, you're more likely to brick than the average deck. It's also not the easiest deck to pilot if you're trying it for the first time. Zone placement and link arrows matter a lot, and your combos are very long. This means the timer is an actual threat.

So that's SPYRAL Auroradon. This deck is super underrated and deserves more respect. Check it out if you can spare the gems.
