Notes & Combos

If you're playing Tear for this event, I think the main thing that you should consider is how much you want to tailor your deck to the mirror vs anti-Tear decks vs rogue decks. From my experience, I faced a much greater representation of anti-Tear decks and rogue decks than the mirror, which led me to some of my ratios and options:

Heartbeat - I think this card is severely underrated. If you look at the statistics on this website, 58% of lists are playing 1 copy, and 37% are playing none. What's very unique about this card is that it's both a backrow removal and an engine card, and it's not only good against floodgates, it's very strong in the mirror because of how important Suliek is in the mirror. It also improves your mills a lot. You're more likely to get what would appear to be very 'sacky' mills with this card. It's the coverage between anti-Tear decks and the mirror that makes this card great, it gives you a chance against floodgates without compromising the mirror match.

Ash - Obviously an option that gives you coverage against just about every deck that you'd face, but I think it's a better card in the mirror than the conventional wisdom would believe. It's considered low impact, but the upside of negating a Maxx C is very high impact.

Millers - I play 3/4, I'm not sure if it's the correct number, but I think it should be either 3 or 4. Because, in terms of coverage, it's pretty good against rogue, it's good against Anti-Tear decks, and I think it's overall good in the mirror too. Also, given the heavy representation of anti-Tear & rogue, even if you blindly activate a miller on turn 1 (most commonly in hands where you've only opened with Ishizu monsters), it should still work out in your favor more often than not.

Zoo package - I'm still surprised to see that not everyone plays this, it's just so good. The fact that this deck could just have an out to weird situations by pretty much bypassing the conventional summoning condition of Zeus is brilliant to me.

The 15th ED spot - I played Gigantic, but it barely came up. Exeterio feels like overkill. I think an out to Bagooska would be nice but I also didn't find myself needing that too many times, so idk.

Overall, between the 3 different types of decks, I found myself to have the best chance going 2nd in the mirror. The rogue and anti-Tear matchups are more heavily coin flip-dependent because of how tough their T1 setups can be to deal with.
