Notes & Combos

Spraahz already submitted a neat going-second Gren Maju list, so I decided to try a despairge going-first build since I've been running into a decent amount of blind-seconders to not feel bad about the coin toss.

About half the maindeck I yoinked off a fellow degenerate I was matchmade against a while back. Arguably their choice of trap lineup was just as awful as mine (Malevolent Catastrophe is 🔥).

A trap-heavy lineup with Royal Decree probably seems like a terrible idea—and it is—but it's not quite as bad as it may first seem. Ultimately I get to choose when it activates (and can use other stuff before it), and if I'm resolving Decree early enough against Labrynth I don't particularly care if half my deck is now turned off too. And the rest still serve as a plan B if Lab manages to bring out a Knightmare Phoenix or the like.

Mirorr Force should probably be Dogmatika Punishment or maybe Solemn Strike. Mirror Force is funnier though, so it stays and I don't think it's that much worse as a stalling tool. I also didn't want to spread the extra deck even thinner or potentially have Punishment offline since I often emptied the ED in the grind game. Crackdown I believe would be standard choice, but that plays even worse with Decree so I'll pass.

I went with vanilla Mirror Force because:

  • Storming: doesn't seem punishing enough versus Labrynth
  • Drowning: fantastic but it doesn't let me protect a small Eater of Millions, etc.
  • Blazing: ended up being a bad idea paired with Solemns
  • Quaking: maybe correct but links spook me
  • Dark: lol
  • Radiant: lol

One tech I stole from stun lists that I've yet to see in any stun/Timelord-adjacent lists during this event is Scapegoat. Beast tokens make total sense in a fairy/fiend festival. :^) They serve as a decent stall card since they can bait backrow hate while providing 4 bodies.

Arguably more importantly, if I can tank the LP damage without them and summon them on the opponent's end phase, Scapegoat represents a 1-card Unchained Abomination on my turn: 2 tokens for Beat Cop (→ optional Knightmare Unicorn spin for a discard) → Abomination which helps immensely with the grind game. There's some anti-synergy with Shadow-Imprisoning Mirror but even then he's a 3k ATK body. 3x Beat Cop and 3x Abom usually means the line is still accessible even through Pot of Extravagence.
