Notes & Combos

This build is vaguely based on Todd Tolbart's 6th place Diabolantis build at the Feb 2023 New Brunswick regionals.

Diabolantis is one of my favourite recent cards, so I wanted to play what is probably the best deck to play it in (as much as I love Beetrooper, I'm probably not skilled enough to hit Master with it).

For those not in the know, Diabolantis is used to dump Borea and essentially get your entire Therion engine online if you drew any of the other names.

Tips:

  • Given half your matchups will be against tear, which I'm assuming you're just as sick and tired of seeing as I am, an early Regulus against them can put in work. Likewise, wait for them to attempt to use Sulliek before chaining Cosmic.
  • Outside of Baldrake, Bystials pretty much mean nothing on your turn aside from being blockers for PEP. Them putting one in attack position should prime you to go for the funny synchro 11 OTK.
  • On full combo, Nashiwari isn't only for hitting the normal summoned level 2s or Fallen of Albaz. If they try to swing over Sharakusai, you can use it to protect him, especially if they're on a backrow deck, which crumbles to Amazing Dragon. However, remember that Evenly Matched is a card that exists.

Alternate tech choices:

  • If you have Draco Berserker of the Tenyi, please put it in, it slots in beautifully. Only reason it's not in here is I ran out of UR dust :)
  • I think bystials are lameo and take up way too much space, so I elected not to put any in. You're free to do so though.
  • Ghost Ogre is a good search off Dragon Drive, but I don't think it's high impact enough for the current format.
  • I used 2 cosmic to have a better matchup against backrow decks, but you can replace them with more Therion names or handtraps (like the aforementioned Ghost Ogre).
  • Likewise, Nashiwari is really good against Spright/Exosister, so I elected to use it since I'm already running 3 Infinite Impermanence, but Gabu is by far the more popular choice.
