Notes & Combos

Tried out a different variant from all of the Superheavy Samurai FTKs, Handloops, and Scythe locks with mixed success (mainly because people kept surrendering at the first sight of Soulpiercer or Wakaushi resolving....)

Introducing, the Mjollnir lock!

So what is the Mjollnir lock?

Artifact Mjollnir is a card that locks the player who summons it to only be able to summon Artifact monsters until their next turn. In other words, it's a lingering special summon lock similar to Gimmick Puppet Nightmare.

Discovered by TwoTone and others for decks such as SPYRAL, World Chalice, Phantom Knights, and others, it's discovered that Superheavy Samurai can also make use of Artifact Mjollnir with a one-card combo.

This is a much more powerful lock than Scythe for a couple of reasons:

  • We are able to summon Artifact Mjollnir to the opponent's side of the field on our turn with the help of Imperial Princess Quinquery as opposed to the opponent's turn with Sarutobi, making it harder to interact with.
  • Mjollnir prevents some methods to break Superheavy Samurai boards such as Super Polymerization or monsters like Kaijus or Lava Golem that tribute our monsters for their summon.
  • Forbidden Droplet and Dark Ruler No More cannot prevent the special summon lock provided by Mjollnir as it happened on our turn. This is especially important as the former could've stopped Scythe lock from resolving.

Combined with the 2-3 omni-negates provided by the Superheavy Samurai combo (Baronne, Regulus, Borreload Savage), it's the closest thing to a turn-skip this deck is capable of.

Why am I not running Tellarknight Ptolemaeus?

In testing this variant of the deck, I did try Tellarknight Ptolemaeus, as by detaching 3 materials, he is able to rank-up to Imperial Princess Quinquery to start the Mjollnir lock, but I later discovered Infinitrack Anchor Drill, which can make a Rank 5 by itself with a Level 1 monster such as Stealthy or Soulhorns. Freeing up a Level 4 as material for a Borreload Savage Dragon was a gamechanger.

How does this compare to Artifact Scythe?

To be realistic, I still think Artifact Scythe is superior to Artifact Mjollnir as it requires fewer Main Deck and Extra Deck investment for a less powerful floodgate, one that's enough to win most matchups anyways.

However, I'd rather not let the player have ANY chance to play when I go first with Superheavy Samurai, so this variant is a perfect fit.
