Notes & Combos

Hi! I am happy to say that Mathmech has done it again, completely carrying me to Master V!

Compared to last season's decklist, the main deck has been altered slightly. Because I am conflicted on non-engine, I decided to run a 2:2 split between Droll and Lock Bird and Artifact Lancea for the best two decks of the format: Ryzeal and Maliss (respectively), replacing two D.D. Crows and one Lancea.

Additionally, I run more methods of extension, namely Mathmech Subtraction and Gatchiri @ignister, which serve different niches. Besides being an additional Mathmech name, level 4, and link material, Subtraction can help go for lethal lines with its effect. Another neat thing is that it can shut off a two-negate Apollousa, though it more often will force out their negate. Gatchiri, while not being searchable off of Cynet Mining, can increase the deck's ceiling if drawn, and is by no means a bad card in hand. It virtually makes our endboard boss monster, Firewall Dragon - Neo Tempest Terahertz a towers-esque monster that is also immune to strong boardbreakers such as Super Polymerization and Ultimate Slayer, which are seeing more play due to Ryzeal's popularity.

My personal MVP for my decklist variant are the two copies of Primathmech Laplacian. The abilty to take away your opponent's card in hand twice in some combos (one in our turn and their turn) is incredibly powerful, while also being a great tool of removal (non-target "send"), which can bypass effects such as the recent Ryzeal Detonator. Of course, Mathmech Diameter's omni negate is very strong.

While I never de-ranked, Diamond Rank 2 saw a very frustrating back-and-forth winning and losing. If Ryzeal establishes their endboard, it devastates us, inhibiting vital effects such as our Circular search, Parallel eXceed, and more. Thus, I experimented with some boardbreakers such as Triple Tactics Thrust and Book of Eclipse, but they never exactly showed up when I needed them. I'll continue to experiment as I play more.

Overall, this climb was alright! It was filled with some highs and lows, but that's expected in a ranked system like Master Duel's. Mathmech seems to still be a pretty viable deck, especially since it isn't affected by cards such as Artifact Lancea. While Droll and Lock Bird can be frustrating sometimes, we can still make a Terahertz board. However, we often really struggle going second without the right non-engine pieces.
