Notes & Combos

First Master V of my life with my favourite deck!

Inspired by Manuel Scharfegger's Mathmech TCG deck.

In Diamond,I wa mostly testing Spright and Dragon Link, and was struggling to rank up because of bricking or getting Maxx "C"'d too much, so I decided to use the ol' and reliable mathmechs and reached Master.

Before building the deck i tried to figure out how mathmech was played in a competitive environment like TCG. Most of them were Firewall Mathmechs, but Scharfegger's list (spirit mathmechs) could be adapted to MD.

After analyzing and playing Mathmech for a long time, i figured out how its weaknesses are just:

  • Bystials
  • Unbeatable boards going 2nd
  • The Heatsoul bad draws

With this build i tried to have a lot of handtraps to both draw them with Heatsoul and use them going 2nd. No board breakers because they can brick, especially when drawing with our burning guy.

I'll explain some of the cards:

  • Ghost Ogre & Snow Rabbit was strong vs Kashtira (mostly used vs birth) and Bystials (mostly used vs Regained) and is a good Small World card.
  • x2 Laplacians, Splash Mages and Accesscodes because of Kashtira and consistency.
  • Druiswurm is good with Small World (Any Cyberse>eXceed>Druiswurm and vice versa), especially when you don't know what to search and already have a handtrap.

Now I'll explain why i don't play some cards:

  • PSY Gamma: many people use it in Mathmech, but I don't like it: you must play a total brick, and when you make heatsoul they basically become 3 useless cards in the deck. Furthermore, it's like a worse Impermanence: it gets negated by Ash and summoning the monster isn't worth it because you summon them mostly when Shangri-Ira activates in the SP, and Shangri can't be destroyed and locks you, so Imperm would be better anyway.
  • Micro Coder+Conflict: this isn't really a trash package, but drawing conflict going 2nd hurts a lot and I'm trying to run as less bricks as possible. It's strong in the Code Talker Japan variant, but in pure I don't like it. Even if you manage to set up Micro and Conflict, 2 handtraps would probably have been better, since you also need to discard a card with mining most of the times.
  • Geomathmech Final Sigma: I love Final Sigma, it's a very fun and strong card, but this isn't the format for many reasons. Mostly bc of Unicorn, but even Diablosis banishing Multi hurts since you're now playing with a useless card in the ED.Accesscode is more easily accessible.

Master Duel ID: 071-459-729

Most of the newer replays are D-Link, didn't actually save many MM replays because there weren't ones that deserved to be saved in Diamond 1 and they're from the last season with older versions of the deck, but I'll surely try to collect more next month.
