Notes & Combos

Did this brick? yeah sometimes.

Was if fun? Yeah sometimes.

Jokes aside the deck was a ton of fun for a casual climb and was a way to make snake-eyes a little less boring. The main goal of the obelisk strat is to use Breaking Ruin's graveyard effect after MAX's field effect to get rid of your opponent's graveyard and potentially otk right there. The amount of times the full combo went off was small, but that's why we have snake-eyes to fill in the gaps.

You normally end with IP on the board and obelisk in the s/t zone if you're going for the grave banish, but if you had a good hand you would go normal full SE combo and just use breaking ruin's field effect to get obelisk on the field the following turn. IP using Flamberge as link material is how we get easy access to 2 expendable monsters as tribute fodder for MAX. But that's the thing about this deck that's different than pure snake-eyes: your end board is determined by your hand and there is not a linear path to it. Sometimes you'll have to sacrifice stuff to get the obelisk plays...it's up to you in the moment whether that's worth it r if it's better to just go the normal SE combo/endboard.

I also want to stress just how braindead snake-eyes is and how any simpleton can, and does, play this dumpster fire. Anyone who says the snake-eyes combo or deck is challenging or interactive needs their head examined. EVERYONE who plays against you is reciting your combo to you as you do it. bffr. This variant is NOT like that, you have been warned.

Anywhozzles...

There are some things I would change in the future. I liked the theory behind 3 sphere mode, but in practice it bricked too much. I ran 3 because 1) hand trap space was extremely tight and 2) it synergizes with tokusano. The idea behind sphere mode was to break boards when I lose the coin toss and I can get rid of it with Tokusano if it turns out I didn't need it...but that was not always the case.

In general the deck worked but it has some consistency issues in its current form I need to work out. Out of all the decks I used in diamond (Slifer Lab, Chimera, Morbs) this was the most memorbale and I'm glad I was able to use it enough to rank up and post it here. I will NOT be taking this farther than M5 because I value my sanity, and also **** this game.

I'm going to compile replays as part of the upcomming Egyptian God guide, stay tuned!
