S58: The Aleister Alliance vs. The Medius Multiverse

The arising of the apocalypse is here to shake-up the meta — while Power Patron gives the ability for Elfnote and Artmage decks to spit out 8+ disruptions, new Invoked enters as both savior and villain with its toxic gameplan. This day 1 list is largely experimental and aimed to stress-test tech choices: unique attribute HTs like Ogre and Mourner, the value of the unsearchable Invocation - Grail, additional consistency cards like Desires, and Extra Deck packages like Baronne/Chorozo and the Magistus Pair. Here are some of my observations:

  • Engine & endboards: This deck's main game plan prioritizes the typical endboard of Oceanus in EMZ, Aeon ED rips (3-6), and S:P at a minimum, then an extra Invoked fusion or even Baronne in more gas hands. This was almost always enough to close out games, and there were many times where Oceanus turbo for 1-2 Fuwa draws was also enough. As for the random one-ofs in Desires and Grail — both actually outperformed expectations, especially extending through HTs and playing through boards. Any time I resolved Grail in particular felt like a true bomb card; running more copies may be worth if Droll is running rampant.
  • Extra deck: I definitely missed cards like Almiraj and additional Invoked fusions like Caliga or Augoeides in varied game states, but the ED is extremely tight. I'm not 100% sold on the Baronne package yet, since the most reliable line to summon is 2-card Aleister + Reminiscent, but it can theoretically come up in awkward Droll lines. Rest of the ED all came up, so niche picks like Secure Gardna / Invoked Omega for more Baronne access just don't seem worth it to me.
  • Non-engine: Super Poly felt insane as the main breaker of choice, as the ability to make De Anima provides so much pressure into boards. I'm likely revising the HT lineup, but Ogre felt good into Elfnote / DoomZ. Mourner's main role was another WIND for Sorath, in principle more important as we're not on Almiraj.

In terms of matchup spread, I think Invoked is positioned well — the deck's insane affinity for GY-hate tears apart decks like Branded, while vs the Medius decks it's often coinflip-dependent, but their half-boards are mogged by yours. So all is not doom & gloom if you're looking for an (anti)-meta deck, as long as you're okay playing a floodgate strategy. Have fun with Extra Deck ripping! :)

Varied matchups vs meta decks, some show going 1st resilience, others show boardbreaking going 2nd.
