An Elegy in Six Petals
I. Before the Thaw
They came in the dead of a new season, and no one knew their names. I planted them beside Sunavalon, Ragnaraika, and Aroma. Each time they bloomed pale and briefly, and the frost took them.
Then a stranger planted them alone, and climbed to Master 1. Three Field Spells. It seemed less a strategy than a prayer.
II. The Revelation of Snow
In mixed gardens, the Field Spell is lonely; where no Rikka walks, it lies in the hand like a stone. But in a garden of only Rikka, it becomes Glamour returned, Moonlit Water drawn again. Beneath Mulcharmy and Droll, it is the one blossom that does not wither. Going second, every negation turns toward it like moths toward a lamp, and in that brief darkness, Triple Tactics Talent opens its door.
And Cactus Bouncer, this stupid piece of cardboard, stands at the garden's edge, asking only that whoever comes for it pay more than they wished.
III. What the Garden Gives
- At last, a song to sing beneath Mulcharmy and Droll.
- Each card spent is a card answered, and the ledger leans in our favour.
- Our roots run deeper than the second turn. When the board grows quiet as snowfall, we endure. Seek that silence.
- Enough hand traps to keep the opponent's first spring short.
IV. What the Winter Takes
- Before the board breaker, we are paper lanterns in a gale.
- Before the true powers of this meta, we are wildflowers at the foot of a cathedral.
- To go second is to wake into a world already decided.
- Some mornings the seeds simply do not open.
- Clunky to get going.
- One failed guess into a bad resource trade, and everything we gathered melts like snow upon a warm palm.
- Our final bloom is a single lantern where others raise a city.
- Even given the first turn, we cannot end it by the second. Game is still being played past that.
- Evenly Matched: the scythe that does not ask which flowers were beautiful.
- Let one non-Plant set foot upon the lawn, and the garden forgets its own name.
- "What do you mean I am a Machine now?"
- And monster removal, the oldest frost of all.
