Notes & Combos
Haven't tryharded in MD for a while because I got annoyed after getting sacked repeatedly by the biggest helmet deck in the format (Blue-Eyes).
But with the Gems from the latest festival, I was planning to build Mitsu Ryzal, then decided to not craft the missing Ryzeal URs yet, so I climbed with this instead and I really enjoyed it. This deck has actually better endboards with 8-10 layered Interruptions (as you are going to see in the replays) and often better endboards under Droll, because any 2 bodies can make Moon and Moon or and Fiendsmith starter results in Caesar + Paradise with follow-up or either nasty Agnumday OTKs or Light/Dark Chaos Angel going 2nd. If you don't open Habakiri, Engraver/Tract + any Lv4 like Fuwa can also access Habakiri via Feral Imps.
Deckbuilding decisions
- I chose to find a good balance between engine and non-engine, therefore the main Starters 3, the necessary engines pieces for my combos at 1. Engraver is semi-mimited and Tract at 2 worked best for me. I tried Sanct in the past, but it's not an extender after you resolved Engraver to get the Necroquip draw and doesn't put a Light Fiend in the GY, preventing you to end on Caesar + Paradise.
- I considered cutting Paradise to make the deck more consitent, but during my rating duels my Paradise in the deck really paid off for me and allowed me to win some games under Droll that I wouldn't have won without Paradise.
- Maybe there is a world where you play 2 Aramasa and/or 2 Ritual, but I never needed more than 1 of both. Might test those cards at 2 in the future.
- The non-engine cards are pretty much staples. Nib being searchable in this deck is pretty cool and makes it almost impossible to lose going 1st after resolving the combo. Might try a 2nd one in the future.
Genral advice:
- Playing around Ash: If you have starters for both engines, for example Habakiri/Pre-Prep + Tract, you might want to start with Tract first to check for Ash Blossom, also it's better if you get drolled on resolution. Ash on Tract means that you can get back into Fiendsmith later if Ritual resolves.
- Playing around Droll: If your only starter is Prayers, use it in the Draw Phase
- Playing into Maxx C/Fuwalos: I recommend searching Ritual with Saji, use it to summon Murakumo from the deck. Tribute Habakiri from hand to search Purification. You get 1 Omninegate, 1 Raigeki and forces 1 discard for only 2 draws, which can be enough enough to stop the opponent if you have solid non-engine.
Replays
Those are the combos I would normally play if the opponent has 0 handtraps:
Habakiri/Pre-Prep Combo (Endboard: I:P, Caesar, Futso, Prayers, Purification, Lacrima into Paradise, Nibiru in hand)
Habakiri+Engraver (Endboard: A-Bao, I:P, Caesar, Desirea, Futso, Purification + 1 draw)
