Notes & Combos

MY GUYS, WE DID IT. SKY STRIKER TO MASTER 1!!! AAAAAHHHH

My struggle

I built this deck last year as a go second to counter Dracotail. Every season starting from diamond 5, I would try to climb with it and get sent back to the Shadow realm ( Diamond 5 ).

This deck is so hard to play and so easy to misplay with . I started with the go second version. I would try to break board with the superpoly, slayer,... then lose to an ash/droll or I would summon in my main monster zone and be locked out of my Sky Striker spells. There are time when I would not recognize combo without raye/engage, facepalm then shame scoop. Even when I managed to break the board my follow up was way to weak. The meta made it twice more difficult. People be building board with more interruptions on field and backrow than I have card in hand along with handtraps along with targetting and/or destruction protection. Then there are meta sheep that have a category on their own, "The combo slop stun decks" . They became more and more prevalent. Those ******* are the reason I had to choose the go first version with handtraps.

It's probably when I began playing with handtraps that I started learning the deck for real. I could barely play before. However, I still sucked because I couldn't establish decent board, and didn't account for handtraps in my plays. My grind game wasn't great as well. It was a slow and painful process.

Progress

It all began with watching the monthly run of Panini ( @stabbedbyahippie). I learned a lot about Sky Striker and how my opponent will try to play through it and how i can counter them trying to play through it. There is so much to learn that you can't possibly internalize everything the first time. Each Sky Striker matchup against particular archetype is its own thing. Sky Striker is a control archetype in my opinion. It's only when your foe is out of juice and handtraps that you can OTK as the OTK line is pretty risky. Therefore, you need to know how your opponent deck plays, and what your deck can easily deal with. I would watch that 1 hour long video, go play some games thinking that I grasped something, then misplay and lose miserably and sit there confused like, " How the **** do Sky Striker players do this ? "

Unfortunately I can't write everything as there's a limit. Basically, It all came together by playing an uncountable number of duels. The Kewl tune meta really helped in addition to the Radiant Typhoon package.
