Notes & Combos
Pretty standard build for VSK9.
Got quite unlucky with coin tosses, going 60–80 from M5 to M1. That, coupled with some coin-toss matchups like Odion, meant that it wasn't as smooth of a climb as expected.
The main deck choices I've made are:
- Bystials (Dark attribute, good vs. Mitsu)
- Pluton (Fire attribute, VS name)
- Extravagance (Consistency)
- Purulia (Decent vs. most matchups)
- Dropped Droll — conflicts with Charmies
- Dropped Reboot — only good vs. Odion
- Never tried Shifter
This lands us with a ratio of 9 Fire, 9 Dark, which is pretty decent for HS/Fire/Dark combos.
The extra deck choices I've made are:
- 2x Ripper, 3x Rocks — Extravagance insurance
- 1x Zenmaioh — Good for Dracotail and RT matchups
- Dropped Saryuja — Felt quite a bit like win-more
- Dropped Vallon — Didn't come up often enough
General notes on the climb:
- Going first, it's incredibly important to sequence your plays correctly to play around the popular hand traps (Ash, Fuwa, Droll). There are usually multiple options between the VS and K9 plays.
- Going first, SP > Vallon. Assuming you go full combo, SP banishing itself + Rock for guaranteed follow-up won me so many games.
- Going second, Pluton is very versatile:
- Can chain block in the RT and DT matchups
- Can use it to start your plays with a Rock to SS from hand
- With Earth/Dark, can crash into Yummy boards
- With Borger/Dark, can draw 2
- With Jiaolong/Borger/Fire, can search HS
- With Caesar, you can start the turn with a 3k beatstick on field
- Overall, a much more interesting climb than expected. There are some auto-win (~20%) and auto-lose (~20%) games, but the rest of them are pretty competitive.
