Notes & Combos
I played 46 games from Master 5 to Master 1 with the new Kewl Tune deck. Here is how the deck performed:
- Overall Win Rate: 69.57% (32 Wins - 14 Losses)
- Win Rate Going 1st: 87.50% (21 Wins - 3 Losses)
- Win Rate Going 2nd: 50.00% (11 Wins - 11 Losses)
- Average Game Length: 2.26 Turns
I was surprised this deck arrived in Master Duel at essentially full power. Kewl Tune is a potent archetype offering a unique playstyle centered on Synchro Summoning during either player's turn. Its main deck monsters trigger effects when sent to the Graveyard as Synchro material that provide disruptions on the opponent's turn.
Rotary and Cue are the most critical cards for enabling your turn-one plays. Typically, you want to Normal Summon Cue to Special Summon Rotary, then Synchro into Track Maker. From there, you can stack your triggers to peek at the opponent's hand and manipulate the top card of their deck while searching for extenders. This sequence is what makes the deck so formidable when going first; knowing your opponent's hand and their next draw is often devastating enough to win the game on the spot.
The Extra Deck Kewl Tune monsters require all Tuners as material, with the exception of B2B. Remix, RS, and Crackle require specific main deck Kewl Tune monsters, whereas Track Maker and Loudness War use any Kewl Tune Tuner. Your ideal turn-one end board usually consists of one or two set Kewl Tune Synchros, Remix and Reco on the field, and Mix with another Reco in the Graveyard. On the opponent's turn, you use Remix to summon the Reco in the Graveyard, then Synchro with the Reco on the field to summon RS, triggering the newly-summoned Reco's search effect. While Synchro Summoning into B2B can be difficult, it is a reliable finisher. Also, pay close attention when using Zalen; be sure to use its effect carefully, or you may accidentally negate your own plays.
This deck is challenging to pilot because your optimal lines depend heavily on the information gained from Cue and Rotary. Furthermore, the deck is susceptible to the most popular hand traps and can struggle when going second. Overall, I enjoyed the climb and expect Kewl Tune to be a meta contender for quite some time.
