Notes & Combos

My first season playing Crystal Beast. Used this list from M5 to M1. This list was inspired by Jesse Kotton's Crystal Beast deck that he played against TeamSamuraiX1 with in his recent video. I also climbed from D5 to M5 using the variant that uses the Springans engine from Dread Guy's videos. I personally prefer the Snake-Eyes variant.

Springans vs Snake-Eyes Engine

In both variants, the primary goal of their respective engines is to summon Saryuja. Here are the main advantages of the SE engine over the Springans engine:

  • You can play through more interruptions with SE.
  • Even if you get interrupted, Flamberge and Promethean princess can still establish pressure and recursion.
  • You can use Hiita to steal your opponent's SE cards to start/extend your plays.
  • There is some synergy with SE backrow manipulation with CBs.
  • The SE engine pieces are better to draw than Springans.

Here are the advantages of the Springans engine:

  • Smaller engine. Can run a smaller deck size or more non-engine.
  • Can summon Overdrive in one turn much more consistently.
About the Deck

The best endboard of this deck going first is to summon Gameciel with the field spell live. It's not guaranteed, but I've won almost every game that ended on this board. If you don't open a way to access the Kaiju field spell before summoning Saryuja, you hope to get there with his draws. Otherwise, hopefully you drew into some non-engine or extenders that can set up Apollousa or prepare for Overdrive on turn 3. I don't like summoning Overdrive on turn 1, even if I'm able to, since there are so many ways for your opponent to out it.

Card Choices

With the Snake-Eye variant, Amblowhale is a really useful, but I struggled to find space for it. I ended up cutting it for Zeus for better going second.

I think the Vaylantz field spells are strong and would make the deck more fun. The issue with them in my opinion, is that they aren't great going first. They are much better for board breaking and extending going second. They are worth considering though.

Closing Thoughts

I'm far from an expert on piloting Crystal Beasts, and I'm certain that I don't have an optimal build. I misplayed a lot during my climb, and lost my M1 rankup game multiple times due to misplays. Crystal Beasts take a lot of foresight and it will require a lot of experience to make the most of the deck. With that said, if anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the deck, I'd love to hear them!
