Notes & Combos

This decklist is intended for use within the 2023 Legend Anthology.

I often seem to find myself saying that Starry Knight is slept on during event formats, and this is another one of those times. It's been so successful and enjoyable to me this time around that I felt the need to share it.

Ties of the Brethren being limited does kind of suck, as it helps solidify control, but it's not necessary for the deck to perform well. However, since the Barrier Statue of the Heavens has been banned, our usual choice for summoning alongside Honest is now Starry Knight Orbitael if in need of another Spell or Trap, or more interestingly, Spirit Sculptor, who can act like a Small World to search out any Starry Knight by tributing another Starry Knight, as all of them have the same stat total of 2500, or tributing itself to search Contact "C". Contact "C" is a powerful handtrap in this format, which I have only seen reliably outed by synchro decks such as Blackwing.

Another deviation from the norm is the inclusion of Condemned Witch, who can search out Forbidden Chalice in a format with a limited Infinite Impermanence, and can quick-effect tribute herself to bring out a quick-effect Starry Knight monster.

Bahalutiya, the Grand Radiance can be a great stand-in or accomplice to Starry Night, Starry Dragon depending on the situation, removing searched cards from the opponent's hand, or providing a body for an Xyz summon. Remember that it can normal summon itself with its effect, so if you have both dragons in-hand, you might want to save your Spell/Traps for Starry Dragon.

Three Starry Knight Sky isn't required, but I like it for consistency - with Ties of the Brethren limited, the field spell makes it a little easier to compensate. If I was going to drop a Sky, it would probably be for Harpie's Feather Duster or something, as Trap-heavy decks can be big trouble if they go first.

Most of the Extra Deck is purely optional and there exist other good options for the toolbox it provides, so don't take this list as gospel. Big Eye and Red-Eyes mainly feature as luxury cards to close out a game while you're ahead.

All in all, Starry Knight proves once again to be a surprisingly powerful and versatile deck, albeit one that prefers to go first. That said, it can put up a fight going second, especially if your opponent isn't attentive to the numerous ways to summon Starry Dragon.
