Notes & Combos
Reasoning Azamina is one of my favorite decks of all time, so I'm really happy to see it's still got enough life in it to compete in the cup. The climb wasn't too bad once I got the list tuned. Consistency is this deck's biggest issue so it went through quite a few changes.
Card Choices:
Elzette never came up once when I was playing her, so she got cut for magician's souls. I cannot tell you how many times the extra draw or reviving Dia off of Like the Diabell came up, so souls definitely earned it's spot.
Card quality for most of the sinful spoils stuff is low, so cards like sussur and awakening just don't make the cut, however, Snake-Eye Chase actually was very useful as a backup plan when I drew it. Might run an extra Vengeance too if you feel like you need more.
Illusion Gate won a few games as a great pull off of Thrust, and all the board breakers really got a chance to shine this event. The only decks putting up negates are Tear and Artmage usually. Impulse was the mvp as usual. Spark was only okay.
If I had to do the climb again I'd probably drop super poly and run an F&V package instead. SPoly being at one meant it really wasn't as useful as like, an extra Silvia. The two Azaminas actually came up quite a bit to clear up boards if I could stick a Saint Azamina.
Matchups:
-
Most common matchup was branded. A lot of people are putting way too much confidence in Walbaz so a lot of duels get ended by board breakers pretty easily.
-
Dracotail was common too. Much harder with flame causing issues and sting banishing GY assets.
-
Artmage was surprisingly common. Very hard matchup if you can't bait the negate easily.
-
The only other ones common enough to mention were Darklords and Shaddolls. Shaddoll has an annoying amount of gas but lacks in relavant interruption for us at times. Azamina does a great job of switching to a trap control deck when it needs to so Winda isn't always the most high-impact, but if they get going while you have GY setup they're likely winning.
-
Ran into two Lunalight players. Stopped one, didn't have the right hand for the second. Draw evenly, Lava Golem, or pray they don't know about Azamina tribute.
Very fun and flexible deck, especially if you like gambling. Having two negates on your endboard in a limited event like this is huge. However, prepare to set three and pass if you get unlucky. Not a bad enough problem to keep us out of max rank, but until Wanted gets unlimited sometimes we must suffer.
