Notes & Combos
I've wanted to play this deck since I heard about it coming out in paper. Though it was still underpowered even in this relatively lower powered setting, I did manage to get a 5 winstreak, and played the whole event with pure Ancient Fairy Dragon. It's a lot of fun, if you like this kind of deck playstyle.
This is very much a control deck. I found myself often having to use AFD's summon effect going second, giving up the battle phase, to create a reasonable board (more of a wall, with Sunshine for negates along with whatever handtraps you drew).
In addition to the core of AFD/AFLD, Bystial Dis Pater synergises really well, as it can recycle banished Regulus (off his draw 1 gy effect). With Orcust all over this event, I tried to have BDP out on my endboard whenever possible.
For the tuners, Tamayura's target protection to synchro'ed monster can create some comedy, and is great protection for this deck. I started Bat at 2 but upped it to 3. You can often get access to the field spells, and if you get Bat's search, it is quite strong (grabs both L4s, and your tuners that ss).
While Heritage was often redundant (one of the replays shows this), before I added it I far too often didn't end up with access to a L4. The deck can't function without that, so playing pure, it felt necessary.
Also, handtrap-wise, as often as I remembered, I swapped in 3 imperm for 2 Mourner and one Talents whenever I didn't have a monster sitting on the board to start. I tried Belle, which was great in some matchups, but in the end decided to focus on negates. I used droplet as Onari on summon can re-set a quick-play spell from gy.
If you're interested, hope you give Luna's support a shot, at least in lower-powered events and festivals!
Replays
I saved three replays, all going second. The first is grinding through a negate-fest, second against dragon ruler, the third shows more of the full combo (but needing to skip the battle phase).
