Notes & Combos
Submitting this on the second day of the Ishizu cards' release, so I'm going to preface by saying that this deck was built with the pre-Ishizu format in mind.
Now, most Runick Spright lists will look very similar because of the large number of engine cards required, so you might think that there's nothing interesting to talk about with this deck, but I want to share a theory that I have: In Spright mirrors (of any variant), the person who successfully resolve Maxx C more times have a significantly higher chance to win, because it is simply the most impactful/unfair card in Master Duel right now.
So with that in mind, I decided to max out on the number of Maxx C outs. The direct trade-off for doing this is that you'll have less room for engine cards, which is why I'm only playing 14 Runick Spells as opposed to the more commonly preached 17. As a result of that, my end board will not always consist of Fountain, but I don't find that to be a big issue because it's much more ideal to negate a Maxx C and end without Fountain than having to pass turn with Fountain. Going back to my number of times Maxx C is resolved theory, I just find that having to pass turn sets you back so much that you're not going to be able to keep up.
Couple specific cards that I want to talk about:
Gamma - A pretty popular choice in pure variants but I find it to have strong synergy in Runick Spright as well. Starter / Tip 1st effect / any Runick Spell's 2nd effect are all possible points to trigger Gamma, and if the spell activation goes through you can just pitch it (or Driver) for cost. It's also the second strongest generic handtrap going second right now, being able to negate and destroy the effect of your opponent's normal summoned level 2 monster can make them just pass turn in the pure matchup. Strong vs other decks as well. Initially I played Lava Golem in these slots.
Underworld Goddess - I'm surprised this isn't played in every Runick Spright list. I find it to be by far the more useful I:P target in mirrors because it not only removes a monster from your opponent's board just like Unicorn would, but it also checks Elf.
Herald of Pure Light - Again, goes back to my theory of resolving Maxx C more times than your opponent. Underrated card that's not being played in a lot of Spright extra decks right now.
