Notes & Combos

I was surprised with how well this deck worked on the climb. Some notes from my choices:

  • I used Snowl over Apex Avian mostly because I like the animation. That said, I think there is an argument to be made for it being the better choice on the ladder. The ability to book the whole field is often extremely powerful, able to shut down turns when an omni wouldn't. It's also a Floowandereeze name, so if gets milled/banished you can get it back, unlike Apex. The piercing also did enable an OTK twice. All of that said, Raiza and Empen are both significantly better than Apex and Snowl, so the choice isn't very important.
  • I went for no hand traps becasue their impact against meta decks is often just not enough, while DRNM and Evenly won me several games alone. It's rare for boards to have more than one spell negate, and people love to fire it for Pots/Advent/Field and die to Evenly.
  • I put Cyclone in as the last tech choice because I ran into several Runick Stun decks, but they never actually came up. Maxx "C" would be much better here, but I wanted to have one Diamond 1 deck with no Maxx "C". Called By is there mostly to try and stop Ash, but it also didn't come up very much.
  • ED obviously doesn't matter and never came up, I put in my favorite royals so I could admire them while getting FTK'd.

Overall, I had a lot of fun playing this... I got to take a break from worrying about Maxx "C"! The main combos are very straightforward, but there are points where small difference in timing can make a difference and swing games. I won more than 50% of my games going first and second... but if I play it more, I'd probably go for a mix of hand traps and board breakers. I might also spring for some Jack-In-The-Hand's/Sarc for consistency
