Diamond I from X X I L on February 14th, 2023
Owned Cards
41 cards

Notes & Combos

Note that for the early half of my diamond climb, I skipped Red Reboot and just ran a third Lava Golem for a clean 40 card count. I've gone back and forth on Reboot, but I think I like it in a bit more than not (and I definitely am fine with 41 cards now, see below).

I took a hiatus from MD for half a year and coming back it seems I still much prefer blind second decks for sanity reasons. Malding over coinflip gets old fast. 8-axis doesn't seem as equipped to deal with current threats than just stuffing a deck with conventional board breakers + handtraps, so Numeron it is.

I like AnonHedgehog's assessment of running 10 copies of Network. Extending on it a bit, it also makes me feel a bit less bad about running 41 cards vs 40. At 40 cards and a 6 card turn 2 hand, the marginal gains of going 9->10 copies is a +3.71% chance for 1+ copy, and a +3.81% chance for 3+ copies. At 41, the comparison is +3.78% for 1+, and 3.60% for 3+.

In absolute terms, going from 40->41 size deck at 10 Network copies is a loss of 0.90% (84.53% -> 83.63%) consistency of seeing any copies, but also a 0.93% (15.28% -> 14.35%) loss of seeing 3+ copies where presumably the third+ copies are dead draws. I'm happy to make that exchange and dilute down to 41, but your assessment may vary.

I ran into less Swordsoul than I expected, so one of the Golems could have probably been an additional Kaiju instead. Most boards still ended on 2+ monsters, so Golem was rarely a dead draw and it conflicted with Planet Pathfinder less than I expected, but I may have just been lucky. Currently I prefer a larger tribute package over Imperm due to Cynet Conflict or Blackout searches/sacky draws.

As far as backrow hate, I'm not sold on Cosmic Cyclone. My understanding is it's primarily for the Runick field spell, but I'm left questioning "and then what?". My experience has been that Runick players hedge their bets by setting some spells, so they can still blank a LS/Duster even when the field spell's offline. Generally the gameplan feels the same regardless of Cosmic: Wait for LS/Duster + Droplets + Network(+Limiter Removal) and hope they're impatient enough to put a monster in EMZ. If anything I'd rather add 1 Imperm to reach 4 Imperm+Droplets parity with 4 LS+Duster.

I like Ghost Belle over D.D. Crow since she is cuteprovides protection from Called By. Crow does have some interesting applications due to not being chain blockable, but also some non-applications like Lubellion so YMMV.
