Notes & Combos
Basic Maliss. I played around with adding TY-PHON for Ryzeal grind games, but the times it would be a useful improvement I was already locked out.
- I'm playing Cerberus because losing to chaos hunter is awful. I haven't tried Dharc, so I don't know if that's more useful.
- I don't run into lancea enough for it to be worth playing one of for crossout.
The biggest take away for me is that Maliss is amazing at preventing handtrap interaction while comboing, which means that you can take the Maxx C challenge surprisingly often.
A few things I've noticed:
- Maliss is terrible going second. However, it's amazing on turn 3. This means that if you can force your opponent to enter the battle phase to e.g. deal with an appollousa, you can probably win handily on the crack back. The fact that the extra deck will still have powerful cards you didn't use in your turn one board like crypter, terahertz, accesscode, and firewall also helps a lot.
- Maliss is really good going first. Taking the Maxx C/mulcharmy challenge is surprisingly viable, especially if you know your opponent is also playing Maliss. Also, you can try to draw droll as an out.
- Maliss is extremely good at taking advantage of a nibiru going first. If you draw nibiru, take a line that gets you crypter, use your initial endboard to force them past the five summons/take out their nibiru insulation, hit them with nibiru, and then bring back your Maliss endboard to clean up any recovery attempts.
- Droll is amazing for this deck. There are a lot of hands where you don't need red ransom's search, which means it's another Maxx C/mulcharmy out. Even better, Droll is basically lancea against Ryzeal, especially with them playing 6 seventh tachyon.
- If you get Maxx C'd/mulcharmied going second, go for the kill. Just make sure that a single imperm on your accesscode/crypter won't save your opponent. I don't know the optimal lines for this, (do you make appollousa and build a big board or just go accesscode + crypter?), but even when I'm fumbling around it tends to pay off.
- Baldrake + March Hare is great turn 0 interaction, and I think baldrake is a better search than druiswurm if you go first.
