Notes & Combos
Full disclosure I only did the d1-m5 part of my climb with this deck.
Decknotes-so far the deck feels good
Lava Golem With purely coming to MD full power and dragon link being one of the strongest decks right now lava golem both clears the field and gives you a large opportunity to generate some damage
Notes vs matchups
D-link Your biggest issue I have found when I was playing d link was borrelend savage dragon bringing back cards to pop his own then using branded beast to pop their own borrelend dragon to ensure that you don’t hit leathial.
Sword Soul Turns out protos call dark works very poorly against this deck. Usually they will end on two cards and maybe blackout lava golem is mvp in these matches. When they end on something like grand master, baron, blackout with a monk of tenyi on the field then you have to make a judgment call and see what you think you can pay through.
Lab Pray But in all seriousness it is a very bad matchup for us. You need to hard open feather duster to try and do anything to them and most of the time it just feels like slapping a paper bag against a brick wall especially if they start running that powersink stone.
Spright Board breakers are key in this match up lava golem and kaiju your way to victory. Be careful when it comes to sprind and it bouncing your card back.
Runick Very bad matchup sometimes it is just best to go gg go next not fun or enjoyable match up to play.
Kashtira Not very hard to play against as it's not really a good deck kaijus and lava golem really hurt them. I've only ever lost to them once and that was when I bricked hard and opened the trap, two maxx c, the trap and two ceremony.
Punk Board breakers and kaijus are once again key in this matchup pick what to use them on wisely and as long as they don’t just draw the out by going plus 2 your fine.
Purrely Lava golem their stuff and they still somehow manage to go +2 or +3 in cards they have in hand. How do they do it? I have no clue and no idea why this deck exists. Rant aside they play off of card advantage very well and their ability to bounce back is insane. If you don't win turn 2 then you will not be winning the match. I have had games where they have ended their turn with zero cards in hand then after turn two they had 6.
Tech card of choice
Ghost Reaper and Winter Cherries Card allows you to snipe key cards out of your opponents ED allowing them to still put monsters on board but leave them without the full combo meaning that your job is a lot harder.
Ratios
I only run two maxx c and two cherries because during my testing it when at three I hand multiple were literally stuck to my hand so I decided to give two of each a go and it worked out fine. Rest of the Mikanko ratios are the same all round and pretty standard, nothing special, some things maybe could be improved on but they work well for me.
In the end I started shoving the smaller xyz's from purrely into the ed to see what hurts the most when they can't use.
Endnotes I may try climbing with Mikanko but right now they seem pretty inconsistent with their ability to otk without spiritwalk alongside the current issue with facing spright boards.
