Notes & Combos

Welcome back everyone! I’m really excited to share my latest list because I’ve been loving this deck. After testing different builds, I think Orcust Mitsurugi is one of the most fun and well-rounded decks I’ve played. For those who saw my previous Mimighoul upload, don’t worry, I’ll update that list once I’m done testing this version. Right now I wanted to get this one out there since it’s performing incredibly well and I think Mitsurugi gives Orcust some of the best synergy.

This build is combo-heavy and grindy, able to play through a solid number of 1-for-1 hand traps such as Ash Blossom, Infinite Impermanence, and Effect Veiler, while maintaining strong follow-up. That said, Fuwa, Maxx “C”, Droll & Lock Bird, and similar floodgate hand traps are still very tough matchups. Drawing into them can be devastating, and there’s no perfect way around them. To help mitigate some threats, I included Droll in the main deck, which I consider one of the best hand traps in the format. As Mitsurugi has lead to more Multi-engine decks, Droll not only disrupts othis but also provides insulation, letting you play through Maxx “C” and Fuwa.

I included Lib in the Extra Deck alongside Succession in the main deck. This gives access to an early Apollousa, helping establish control and pressure before finishing your combo. Dyna Mondo is in the Extra as an I:P target, giving other options for Mitsurugi endboards and adding sequencing flexibility. Zombie Vampire is a potential bridge card, though it could be replaced by Hope Harbinger, Number 90: Photon Lord, or a second Dingirsu.

A key reason I love this build is how Mermaid connects Mitsurugi to Orcust. In both OCG and TCG, Orcust Mitsurugi was strong, but Mermaid makes it better than ever by using extra bodies for Orcust combo, enabling extended plays and improving resilience against hand traps. Any two bodies are enough to complete full Orcust lines, including tokens like Nib Token, which often appear if you only have Mitsurugi combo.

When opening Mitsurugi alongside an Orcust starter like Girsu, I always recommend leading with Girsu as it allows you to bait hand traps. If Girsu gets hit by Ash Blossom, that’s ideal since Ash impacts Mitsurugi more heavily. Orcust can still combo uninterrupted. If your opponent has Drolls, using Galatea-i search first ensures at least the Orcust combo.

This deck rewards careful sequencing and resource management, and it can pivot between pressure and grind depending on the matchup. I’ll be posting an update once I reach Master 1, but for now I wanted to share what’s been working in testing.
