Notes & Combos

Hello, and welcome to another monthly yap session about every decklist I post here!

The highly anticipated banlist for November has officially been announced, and it was quite huge: Apollousa banned along with floodgates, Chessy limited to one, the Ryzeal cards limited, Called by the Grave limited, and Droll semi-limited.

So I thought, why not challenge myself and play the nerfed Maliss deck before the ban list is actually effective? I am not the most competent player, but I don't want to climb with Mathmech again.

Here's an overview:

-Engine: I wanted to have as much access to Maliss names as possible while retaining a compact deck size, so I decided to max out on March Hares. I do not think TB-11 is necessary still, but you could certainly add it for stronger combos. The @Ignister engine is practically made for Maliss, and helps us extend past pesky cards such as Nibiru and Artifact Lancea.

-Hand-Traps: Our hand-trap line-up has been changed slightly. Initially, I removed all Imperms completely, but found that I needed more hand-traps that were usable under Impulse's restriction, and targeting negation is still decent despite Mitsurugi. The Bystial lineup is still strong overall, and you may certainly bump it up since it is strong against Orcust and Mitsurugi, as well as to extend or strengthen combos. I found Nibiru to feel secure against FTK decks and rogue decks (I got FTK'd thrice this run without Nibiru).

-Sky Striker: The newest, unfamiliar addition to my Maliss decklist is the Sky Striker engine, and it is quite cool! Engage/Hornet Drones makes two additional bodies which is great for Maliss to make Ransom off of one name. It helps bait Ash, Droll, and Imperm, which is great as well. Widow Anchor is here as a secondary search target, primarily for board breaking. Kagari being an ED monster means we can get to S:P Little Knight easier too.

-Extra Deck: Without Apollousa, our extra deck has been freed up, allowing for more flexibility. Of course, we need Kagari for the SS engine to start, but the last slot is flexible. You could add Dhark, Lizardose, I:P, Transcode, Heatsoul, etc., but I went for Topologic for fun shenanigans and perpetual board-wipes. You typically want it co-linked with Wicckid to be maximize effectiveness.

Overall, the climb was... mixed. Maxx C/Fuwalos was a persistent blight as always, and Red Reboot slaughtered me personally. The deck still performed overall very well as usual, in part due to the SS engine.
