Notes & Combos
After a several-months hiatus from MD, the long-awaited return is finally upon us!
This is the list I was running for the majority of my climb back from the depths of Rookie 2 this season. I probably could have finished it earlier, but I've been busy with other things. Might seem weird, but it's a strong enough list and can def pick up wins. My last push today from Diamond 3, I went 15-4.
Anyway, here are some explanations: For the most part, I'm running the Fiendsmith engine because I like it and I think the cards are cool. However, I do believe there is some semblance of a genuine case for the engine paired with Lunalights.
- Starting with the FS line gives us Caesar for Nibiru before we commit to any LL cards. Not that this is super relevant anymore, but it can also come up against Elfnotes and K9
- Engraver/Tract can discard a bricked Perfume, Marten, or Silver Hound for full FS combo + full LL combo. This came up more than a few times during my climb
- Going 2nd, the FS line can force out interaction by going into Chaos Angel. Also worth noting that LL has a Dark 4 and 6 to pair with FS' Light 4 and 6
- Moon provides some of the most bang for your buck with those extra materials after you've already secured your Ligers
- Not super crazy, but Black Sheep and Perfume's GY effect can let you draw 1 off of Necroquip Princess, which can be nice if you need a discard (or are praying to RNGesus for extension)
- Fiendsmith
All in all, it's far from the worst engine you could be running, and I think it's cool.
Other notes:
- Ghost Ogre was a kind of late inclusion, but I found it to be pretty helpful against all the continuous spells and field spells roaming around
- Book of Eclipse is one of my favorite non-engine slots for LL. Usually you'll just use it to break boards going 2nd, but you can also use it to protect your monsters (Gold Leo) from Imperm/Veiler effects in a pinch. It can even get rid of the summoning restriction from Silver Hound if you get hard stopped there, set it, and somehow survive until your next turn (speaking from experience B])
- Ratios on Masquerade/Tenki/Fraktall are up in the air. I tested 3/3/1, 2/2/2, etc. but I landed on 3/2/1. I think Masq is the best "2nd card" you can open and never wished I had one of the other two when I had it. Tenki has been falling out of my favor for a while just bc of how easy it is to get interrupted if you rely on it. But it's mostly opinion
Thanks for reading to the end!
