Notes & Combos
I didn't play much ranked in the last seasons, so i had to climb all the way from Platinum to Master. The grind was overall fine. This definitely wasn’t the best format, but it was still manageable. The deck achieved a 64% win rate.
Some general notes
With the release of Kewl-Tune, some cards like Psy-Framegear Gamma, Ghost Belle & Haunted Mansion and Super Polymerization have significantly increased in play rate.
- Gamma in particular can severely disrupt your opening plays. Most of the time, your opponent will use Gamma on your NS, so keep this in mind and think about your next plays! The deck has plenty of extenders to swarm the field, so sometimes it’s better to start with a suboptimal line to play around it.
- Super Poly on the other hand usually won't fully break your board but will often cost you two cards such as Regulus/Hyperyton/Naturia Beast/Sera. According to my statistics, the card was used 23-times against me when i was going first and I only lost 9 of those games
- The board going first is strong enough that losing two monsters without a follow-up board breaker isn’t enough. After using it, the opponent is left with a 4-card hand and needs 1-2 additional breakers to deal with your monsters, traps, and GY interactions via Holeutea, as well as your potential hand traps. Even if your field gets cleared, you can rebuild it in some form on your next turn. I had the most trouble dealing with Super Poly when it was set and I had to go 2nd..
- Droll and Lock Bird is also a very frustrating card. It can cripple your plays enourmous but there are lines so you can end on a half-board with minimum Hyperyton plus a combination out of 1-2 traps/Sera/S:P/Naturia Beast. I tested Droll a lot in this format but ended up removing it in favor for Evenly Matched
- Ghost Belle + Forbidden Droplet are mandatory now
- Retaliating "C" might be again another sleeper-pick and is very strong against Kewl-Tune. It can be used against Synchro Overtake, JJ "Kewl Tune", Kewl Tune Synchro and Over Tuning. By banishing the synchro materials, their effects fail to resolve and this will stop the explosiv character from this deck.
- Don't start with Brilliant Fusion if have a Traptrix monster in hand. Instead, you can scout for HTs like Imperm, Ash, Veiler or Droll. Absolutely nobody will anticipate the GK engine, giving you an additional element of surprise
