Notes & Combos
First time bothering to hit M1 in master duel took longer into the season Went all the way from M5 to M1 with Mikanko
First time I actually committed to hitting M1 in master duel, usually I just hang around low to mid masters and messed around with decks. Took me longer to climb than I expected because University started for me this month.
Notes on climb
If you want a more in depth read on match-ups go read my M5 deck list I’m just going to go over a few match-ups and things I’ve learned from M5-M1.
I will also list the three card combo to otk on an open field just in case people aren’t aware of it at the end of this notes section.
Most of the decks I ran into were lab, Mikanko, Purrely, D-Link, Stun, Runick Naturia, tear punk cope, Spright and a few Striker players.
VS Lab
Not the best but not the worst as long as they don't resolve EEV until turn three you survive should be able to win.
Mayowashidori in the grave is the way to get around EEV. It allows you to hopefully get Hu-Li on the field.
They have very little non targeting destruction and if they do sometimes reading diff exists and they target your monsters instead of equips.
VS Mikanko
When going first always try to put up something on the board because if you don’t it will just leave you open to the card combo otk. Putting bodies on board allows you to avoid the otk and if they draw badly you will have another turn.
If you end up with Kaijus on your side of the field you can try to use your extra deck to get them into your opponent's grave to revive with Fire Dance.
Hu-Li is the bain of your existence and will be the largest decided on if you win or not if you Kaiju their green they have very little ability to fight back that turn try to get Hu-Li on your field to avoid the Mikanko traps and your golden.
VS Purrely
Pretty cut and dry matchup but the lv 1 Lyrilusc - Assembled Nightingale is the bain of your existence. If they manage to pull it off try to get the xyz on your side of the field to get a zeus you long grind game win con against Purrley is to somehow keep their Purrely in grave so they can’t SS them from deck.
VS D-Link Also cut and dry just kaiju off what you need to and you're good.
VS Stun
Hu-Li is once again mvp in this match-up you basically just crash into whatever they have on field.
VS Runick Naturia
Kaiju Naturia beast and either kill them turn two or death by 1000 cuts if you manage to deal with the Chenying they will eventually pull out and watch out for white women jump scare.
Hu-Li is once again mvp in this match up.
VS Tear/P.U.N.K Cope
Find a way to get rid of the water barrier statue through the board they manage to put up and you have a decent position.
Large part of why I run Ni-Ni is so I can use Arabesque to bounce it back to hand to play the game.
Very hard match up.
VS Spright
Pretty hard match up if you don’t draw lava golem you need to choose what you out carefully and make sure that you choose what interaction you leave on board so you can otk because against Spright they will either do zeus, goddess or depending on how big of a board you have set up smasher to remove your cards the otk.
VS Striker
Hu-Li is mvp and you will most likely have to use fFire Dance to bring the links back so they don’t use Raye’s quick effect to float into the striker that can pull resources from grave or detach a equipped card.
Notes on the deck list.
I was alternating between a list that had three Nibiru and three Ghost Reaper and Winter Cherries and I ultimately crossed into M1 with the one that had three Winter Cherries.
Winter cherries gave me a better chance against the Tear/Punk cope players as removing Kit forces them to give up a sizable portion of their fusion potential, mills and ability to play on your turn. I choose to hit kit over Chaos Ruler because they can still go into the Zombie vampire line with a Jam Dragon as a second option.
It is also hilarious to see someone comboing only to pause and read Cherries when you activate it to read the effect and wonder how screwed they are. I’ve had a Purrely player instantly scoop after seeing me activate this card.
I run one promise to put up more potential interruption if I go first or need to grind the game out.
I was actively putting in and pulling out one copy of Axe of Fools in my deck. I have a love hate relationship with this card however the list I used to get into M1 did not use it.
Outside of the Winter Cherries targets the ed is pretty standar the zeus lines along with breaksword cause it can target an equipped Mikanko with its effect.
Charmers are usually used by stealing an opponent's monster then using it to go into a charmer of the same type to ss that monster to then go into Avramax or Accessode but it never came up.
Three card open field otk combo
Requirements : Ohime, Lv three Mikanko/Mayowashidori and Double edged sword
Activate Ohime to add ceremony dump the lv three or Mayowashidori Activate ceremony to SS Ohime Activate ceremony grave effect to Dump either Mayowashidori or a lv three You just need Mayowashidori and a lv three in grave Use Mayowashidori to SS the lv three in grave Equip the lv three with DES and attack Use Mayowashidori’s effect to bounce a card when your Mikanko battles back to hand and bounce the lv three Use Ohime’s quick effect to attach DES to Ohime and attack
