Notes & Combos
the clown crew archetype appeals to me a lot due to its similarity to Mitsurugi that is one of my very favorite. they both utilise the tribute triggers to get the engine going (AND of course how fydraulis can help accessing engine via arc light). it's just a pity that they cannot really complement each other, as I first thought of running some of the clown crew cards in Mitsurugi in the hopes of providing additional actions of tributing monsters. I learned to play this deck using much intuition from my experience with Mitsurugi and it's been very effective in gaining understanding.
personally I run full engine cards themselves and avoid preparations, due to how bad droll hurts. being able to play with multiple engine cards is really preferred over so-called one-card combos, which is also the case in Mitsurugi. Noteworthily, clown crew has slightly better chance after getting drolled than Mitsurugi. another reason is that clown crew cannot have all in-engine endboard pieces established off its 1-card combo so I might as well just be prepared to play with multiple engine cards, which is another similarity to Mitsurugi.
Another thing to note is that, flair, as a starter, apart from eaily losing to droll, is really fragile due to how much insight it can give the opponent after resolving the search-anything other than rehearsal added will simply reveal to the opponent that you either have it already, or you have one of the 2 components of a tribute pair, which is really going to help the opponents' handtrap decisions.
I also run strict handtraps over the likes of F&V for maximum chances to interact during the opponents' turns. phara is a good piece to include as far as I have experienced.
Set rotations:(clown crew accounted for about 60-70%-ish of the games)
