Notes & Combos

Played the (soon-to-be-limited) Primite x Blue-Eyes from Diamond 1 to Master 1 to learn the ins and outs of the playstyle. I went 53-33 overall with a few iterations of the deck before I settled on this final build from Master 2 to Master 1. Here's the match breakdown:

  • Overall Winrate = 61.6%
  • Winrate Going First = 67.3%
  • Winrate Going Second = 48.4%

This deck has a consistent game plan and can shut out most other decks going first with Ether Beryl/Lordly Lode and a Blue-Eyes starter like Sage or Maiden in hand. The Primite engine can set up Blue-Eyes plays while drawing out handtraps and disruptions. If your opponent can't stop your Primite cards, you gain an incredible amount of inevitibility from Ether Beryl resetting Drill Beam on successive turns.

This deck, like any other, has its weaknesses. You can make limited plays after getting hit with Maxx "C" or Fuwalos through Hieratic Seal—I played Called by the Grave and Crossout Designator in some versions of the deck to address this issue. My greatest difficulties came from opening too many cards like Blue-Eyes, Mausoleum, Majesty, and True Light. You might run other Bystials or more Ghost Orges and other handtraps to offset your dead draws. The upside is that those dead draws make for discard fodder for Wishes, the card you'll want to resolve the most during your turn.

The Extra Deck is the no-frills version where I wanted to end on a Spirit Dragon or Baronne so that I had access to another omni-negate besides Drillbeam. Lightstorm Dragon came up a few times and is a great addition. Beware of turning off TY-PHON, Little Knight, and Dragon Mech if you use Purge from the hand as that lost me more than a few games that came down to the wire.

Overall, this was one of the most enjoyable anime-style decks I've played and would love to see more cards that bring to life beloved archetypes like Blue-Eyes.

  1. Vs. Centur-Ion (Going 2nd) — final rank-up game to Master 1. I had zero hope of winning this game...but stuck around and was rewarded for my patience.
  2. Vs. White Forest (Going 1st) — played around Turn-1 Maxx "C" and Fuwalos with set Drillbeam and Nibiru as a key disruptor.
  3. Vs. Primite Blue-Eyes (Going 1st) — navigated a Turn-1 Fuwalos to set up distruptions for Turn-2.
  4. Vs. Punk/Gold Pride (Going 2nd) — no handtraps in opening hand but opened Drillbeam.
