Notes & Combos
Notes about the climb
Ended up deciding to climb with Mathmech because of the current meta right now. Its ability to play plenty of hand traps alongside having two very good going second options that lead them into otk’ing your opponent turn two is awesome. One of the key interactions is Math being able to play through droll alongside playing though man interruptions. Most games were against superheavy or branded, with some Mannadium sprinkled in between. There were also many games where my opponent surrender after I played though their interruption or Maxx C did not resolve but thats hand trap format for you
Card Choices/Techs
-Small world/Cynet Mining
Compared to my other Mathmech list I opted into these consistency cards since it lets me more often play through interruption or search ash. Additionally when given the option for playing around droll or playing around the roach always play around Maxx C.
-Why 2 Small World
Because drawing more than one suck and running three made me run into the issue of having drawing too many consistency cards to play through any interruptions with how negative I went with cards in hand
-Why Nabla Helps you play through graveyard hate if one or two of your math cards gets banish from grave you can summon one with Nabla and send another off of Terahertz
-Why no blind second cards
There is very little point to running blind second cards in this meta unless your opponent cannot respond to it additionally the hand traps that we run ideally won’t let them put up a board in the first place
-Why no spirits?
Firewall does the same thing but also are Cyberse cards that you can target off of splash mage to go into link decoder
-Why not run a larger variety of hand traps
You want to see droll and Maxx C in hand as much as possible so that you can have the high impact hand traps.
-Why so many extenders (Gatchiri @Ignister card three Parallel eXceed)
Because they are good in the current hand trap meta and can be used to play though interruptions.
Remember that when Gatchiri is sent from field to grave you can target one card to make it unaffected by your opponents card effects until the end of next turn.
Extra Deck Choices
-Serious consideration was put into playing Tapir for Maxx C cases but most decks can play through him because they are resolving grave effects that can be used or using link monsters to remove him.
-Rest of the extra deck is very standard.
Tips for the climb
Try to put up a negate via diameter and Alembertian when going second it will either force a negate or provide you protection against Nib.
I found myself ending most games when going second with Terahertz by beating over a single monster after sending Mathmech Multiplication to the grave.
Remember to use Terahertz’s effect in battle because he negates all monster effects in the battle phase.
Be careful about going full combo because one Superpoly and your reduced to trying to make a Acesscode and Update Jammer without any extra deck monsters left
If you think they might have Nib or a prompt is continuously popping up when you are comboing and you have a Alembertian with a Diameter effect keep Alembertian on field.
Don’t over extend and send Dotscaper with Darkfluid to link off a Crystal heart to make Heatsoul.
Endnotes
Mathmech plays really well in the hand trap meta we have right now. Being able to play through cards that have gained popularity like Rainbow Magician and Droll while also playing a large amount of hand traps which many decks are playing to counter SHS. While also being able to play through a lot of interruptions going first or second.
Personally I really didn’t enjoy the climb this season because I don’t like the nature of hand trap meta and would prefer to play more gas then hand traps but with the standard end board right now with most decks simply playing more gas is not enough.
