Notes & Combos

New Year but essentially the same deck; Trap Lab Midrange was the choice for this season yet again, as its collaboration of efficient answers, high card quality, and sturdy value engines remained well positioned in a meta that still finds itself top-loaded with decks that are very eager to, and have no problem with grinding you out. The result was yet another very fast M1 with no demotions.

Notes
  • With attrition wars still quite common, Trap Trick has become even more of a mainstay. Being able to act as either engine or interaction on a dime is just flat-out understated flexibility that can often be game-saving given the options at our disposal. You need to be able to trade, and very well at that, right now to be effective - and while the combos with Set-Up and additional tutor attempts with Lady are nice perks - Trick's capacity to allow you to wisely carry that out has become a treasure in its own right.

  • Given this deck is ban list compliant we're seeing an early shift here with Fenrir role's. The package has been expanded to virtually maintain its use and with that, Unicorn, Wraitsoth and Birth have been included. Birth in particular was good this run, as it's yet another grindy engine with residual value that can take over in the mid and late game in those situations where you're fighting heavier for board position. The overall implications it offers in the Branded matchup were nice, and Wrait's boost and Unicorn's ED sniping ended up being more relevant than expected across various encounters.

  • Malong has slipped into the ED, and although it didn't come up a bunch, the times that it did were firmly positive. It interacted exceptionally well when going second and was still sturdy enough going first when timed correctly to feel good about what was being traded into.
