Notes & Combos

M1 climb was tough last week. Got to M2 and knocked back to M5 (WR was in the low 50s). After a break and some event grind, went back to the same list and did M4 to M1 in 25 games (19-6)!

I don't have a 3rd Fuwa, Droplet can be anything, and you can mix in other handtraps if you like (Nib, Belle, Ogre, etc.)

Toughest matchups have been RT, Striker and Gem-Knights. Obv any meta deck with a good hand can be tough, but I haven't noticed anything particulary tough about KT or VSK9 matchups. Maybe I got all the players that don't read. Watching a non-targetable Jacks target pop itself, Cooky Yummy flip itself down, and Engraver send itself to the gy was good comedy.

How is DoomZ so far

  • Great at controlling the duel and has some explosive otk potential.
  • There's only so much engine you can run right now, so you will brick but if you do, handtraps can keep you in the duel. After support, Theorealize will be cut and Medius will either be 1 or none, so no need to go out of your way to craft.
  • Going first, started doing a line where I'm just trying to setup Drastrius Control with Destruction, Raiders, and Angelica's ring. Anything else on the board is a bonus. This line also sets up for Jupiter your next turn.
  • This deck has the ability to play through multiple disruptions, shifter, and droll with certain hands.
  • Only ED monsters I use consistently are Drastrius and Diactorus. Jupiter, Merrymaker, and Typhon all come up though. Don't remember ever having to go into S:P. Fill extra space with Rank 4s or whatever you want.

Tips

  • Don't overplay. There are ways for your board to break - have some follow up for your next turn.
  • Backrow space is limited and you want targets to shuffle back into the deck for Medius. I'd suggest at least 24 monsters in a 40-card list.
  • Don't rush it. Timer gives you more than enough time with this deck. Misclicks and misplays can be punishing.
  • This deck struggles against breakers and backrow. Don't give opponents an excuse to spoly if you think they're on it.
  • Use Shifter as much as you can. You won't be able to do the complete line, but it's worth it.
    • If not running Shifter, you can also look at handtraps that send themselves to the gy. If running Shifter, prioritize the ones that discard themselves.

Most duels are just a similar turn 1 combo or a handtrap battle so it's hard to get good replays. I have one that shows a typical turn 1 setup.
