This deck is fun when it's against decks of a similar strength, but I can't pretend it's actually a good deck for the modern game. Going second, your opponent will likely be able to prevent you from playing, and going first, it doesn't usually prevent the opponent from playing.
The White Forest stuff doesn't do nearly as much without Synchro monsters, but I couldn't find a suitable replacement that would let me get rid of spells/traps when I needed to (and the event banlist hurts the consistency at even doing that much), so I left them in and used them for link summons. At least without Synchros I could fit in all the Gate Guardian fusions.
The winstreak came down to luck, for sure. Three wins were against loaner decks, and the loaner decks are especially bad for this event, especially when people play them in a way that makes them even worse (wasting Dragoon negates on negating something that doesn't matter instead of using them to protect the card and make it hard to get rid of).
