Notes & Combos

For this event, I had initially gotten 6-7k points with Runick Spright, but I found my matches to be almost purely dependant on the coin toss. With how consistent Runick Spright is, I would win the vast majority of the time going first, but had to resort to waiting a long time for my opponent to finish their combo that created setups that were too hard to break when I went second. So I decided to switch to a deck that gave me more of a fair chance regardless of the outcome of the coin toss. This deck is easy, direct, and finishes games (and turns) quickly regardless of the outcome of the duel. With power cards like Shifter, DRNM, and Evenly, you can get blowout wins easily, and if you can’t play because you brick or didn’t draw the right cards, you just concede and move on to the next one. Among top decks, Exosisters also play with the least amount of steps to their combos, so you’ll never run into timer issues. I found these features to make this deck a really good choice for a casual climbing experience in this event, as my goal was to just make the top 10000 because I did not have the luxury of time to play all day, and I was able to do that rather stress-free, finishing somewhere in the 4000s.

In terms of the build, I think it is fairly standard outside of Extravagance. I had actually gotten the idea of playing Extravagance from an Ishizu Exosister list. With consistency being the major weakness to Exosisters, the ability to play with an extra card is incredibly useful, and I think it outweighs the downsides of banishing a 3-of or not being able to play a card like Bagooska that doesn’t come up very often.

I had been wanting to play a deck that could fit a large number of powerful non-engine cards for a while, and I think Exosister is one of the best options for that at the moment. The Shifter-DRNM-Evenly threesome is as good as ever because it plays well into just about everything, and that’s not always been the case in previous formats.

Overall I had a very good experience this time around because it was probably the least time I had spent among the 3 DC’s for a bronze icon placement.
