Notes & Combos

A few? months ago, I copied a Traptrix/Ragnaraika list from TrapChrisYGO (on Youtube) to shake things up and to see how it played (especially since they use Daruma and Trap Tracks). It's been alright, but some of the hands can be awful (opening Beetle or Butterfly {at least Butterfly can be an expensive extender to get going}, too many normal summons that get stopped by a single handtrap, all handtraps or all backrow + Garden, etc etc) Even so, it is a mix up from the traditional Sera + Raff pass build and let me actually use the royal Jasmine I've had for ages.

Daruma is a neat card when paired with the Raika cards, given that you can just send a tri-type body from the field to get the links back without much effort, so losing your field isn't the biggest detriment, even more so when your opponent needs to synchro summon.

As for Trap Tracks, I did find it a bit awkward. It's great for quickly nabbing Daruma or Barrier, but sometimes you can't get a body on the field, your opponent would pop your body before Trap Tracks could, or you would open multiple (I cut it down to 1 and added in Imperms).

12 handtraps definitely isn't enough to go second reliably, so in that sense, the deck is no different from a normal Traptrix list; however, if you don't get stopped, you can always use Picofalena to attach Retaliating to then search Maxx C to get your opponent into a pickle on their turn.

My biggest takeaway from not having played the Ragnaraika cards before is that... I wish they came out at least a year or 2 later. Why can Fountain show itself to summon any Hero body from hand when Butterfly has to discard itself to summon another body? Why does Beetle have to be such a dead body if you open it and can't get going (at least Woe can chump block and come back potentially if you hard open it). I get that normal trap monsters are weird... but Woe would be soo much nicer were it one. Why does Seed have to lock you into the tri-types after you search with it? If your goal is to just link climb, you can surely play better cards that do more on their own than the Raika cards.

Either way, I got to stage 2 on the last day of the DC, so take that as you will (if some of the players were better {like... not putting every body in front of Gorgon's arrows}, things would have been much tougher). I only climbed since I was slowly doing the DC anyways and things happened to go my way well enough to get to level 19, so I figured I'd at least give it a shot to make it.
